Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu underscored on Tuesday, during the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, the importance of continuing EU support for Ukraine on all levels.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), the agenda of the meeting of the foreign ministers of EU member states (Foreign Affairs Council/FAC), held in Brussels, included Russia's aggression against Ukraine and developments in the Middle East, including Syria.
Regarding Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Minister Emil Hurezeanu underlined the importance of continuing EU support for Ukraine across all sectors and reiterated support for the call by international partners for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The Romanian Foreign Minister also welcomed the adoption of the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, as well as new listings aimed at strengthening the EU sanctions regime concerning Russia's hybrid actions and within the framework of the human rights regime.
'He welcomed the coordination among the leaders of the coalition of the willing,' reiterating firm support for a just and lasting peace, with the involvement of Ukraine and Europe in negotiations to ensure the sustainability of a peace agreement,' the MAE points out in a press release.
At the same time, the head of Romanian diplomacy reaffirmed support for advancing the EU accession negotiations of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, considering the progress made by both countries.
Regarding the situation in the Middle East, Minister Emil Hurezeanu expressed concern about the continued escalation in the Gaza Strip and issued a call to all parties to respect international humanitarian law and resume dialogue.
In this context, he emphasised that Romania will continue to support humanitarian actions in Gaza, mentioning that the most recent medical evacuation of pediatric patients from Gaza, to which Romania contributed through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, took place on May 14. Currently, 41 patients are receiving medical care in Romania.
Concerning the situation in Syria, the Romanian Foreign Minister highlighted the international community's expectations from the new Syrian authorities regarding the continuation of a peaceful and inclusive political transition process. He also stressed the importance of improving Syria's economic situation to help stabilise the country internally, the MAE release also reads. AGERPRES
